partie 12

Position / side experience
Each time a player plays on a certain position (goalkeeper, defender, midfield, forward) or side (left, right, center) he'll gain an experience point for that position and/or side. Then his current position/side will be set as the position where the player has more experienceplaying in.
Let's imagine that you're starting your career. You are training finishing a lot and you already have 5 at that skill. But your human manager (bots will try to understand to what target position you are trying to train/play) is forcing you to play as a defender since the beginning of the season. Now, even if your skills are better as a forward, as you've been playing as a defender, you'll be shown as defender - you've been earning experience points at that position for some matches now. This won't stop you from being a successful forward later on, but until your position changes to forward you'll suffer some penalties from the repositioning (read more below).

The same will be exactly used for sides. The only difference is that you can train sides and you don't have the possibility to train a position. There's also another important aspect about sides experience. If you remember correctly, at the character creation, you had to select your favorite foot, right? Okay then, now let's imagine your favorite foot is the left foot and you've been put playing at the right side on a random match. You'll gain experience for the right side but you'll get a small penalty on the amount you gain as you are left footed. If you'd be put on the middle or left side of the pitch you would have had the full experience bonus.

When you start the game, you'll start with all your skills at zero (0) and without any position or side experience points. So your position will be set as "?" and you'll have a randomly selected side. With training you'll be able to change your position until you perform at your first match because we have a set of 5 skills that we use to define a position for bot players and the same will be used for human players without position experience.

Repositioning
When you play at a different side or position than your original ones, you are playing repositioned. This means that you'll suffer penalties on your individual match skills.
We also differ side and position repositioning. When you play on a "wrong" side the ME takes 20% out of your short passes, long passes and technique skills and also 50% of your crosses ability. If you're put on a "wrong" position, the ME takes 20% out of your short passes and long passes ability, 40% of your game vision ability and 50% of your positioning ability.

Individual Orders
As you are controlling a player you can also have the possibility to change certain aspects of the way your player plays in matches.

At the moment we have 7 individual orders that can be selected: "Shoot from distance", "Go in the direction of the goal (in spite of going to the goal line and cross)", "Use a dribbling style of play", "Avoid dribbling with the ball" (you can't select the last two at the same time), "Use long passes more often", "Use short passes more often" (once again, you can't select the last two at the same time) and "Avoid getting tired".
All are pretty obvious so there isn't a lot to say about them. Only worth mentioning two small things: the first is that your player won't always obbey the selected orders in matches; the player will indeed follow your orders a lot, but under some conditions, he won't be able to do what you've requested. The other is that the "Avoid getting tired" option will make you play worse so that you can save your fitness. Of course you can still suffer some fitness loss if your player is request a lot during the match. If you really want to guarantee a high fitness level the best thing to do is probably to ask your manager to replace you at half-time.

Match Events
This is basically a feature that will allow human managers to replace players during matches (for now). It can be a really useful feature if you want to rest a game and save fitness: just ask your manager to replace you at a given time and wait for his reaction. However it can also be a negative feature for you if your manager keeps replacing you without any valid reason. But that will have to be something you should solve with him!

Individual Rating Points
Just a note so that you can know that for each match you play you'll be given an individual rating. All players start with 5 points (in a 0-10 scale) and this rating will raise or drop depending on your performance during the match. At the end if the match the player with the higher rating will win the Man of the Match award. This rating might also have an influence on your morale. Good matches will raise your morale but bad performances will ruin it, so be careful, especially with your fitness level.

Match Report
After each game you'll be able to view a match report, containing vital information about your player's (or team's) efforts. The match report is the place to look if you want to know how well your player did for himself. The match report contains a lot of information. It is divided in 4 parts that you can check selecting on the right information panel: the starting eleven and ratings part (the default view), the match comments part, where you can see the most important plays of the match, the statistics part with info about shots, ball possession, amongst others; and finally the 2D view of the match (only for FS Fans though) where you can watch the full outcome of the match. The viewer is similar to the Football Manager® series viewer so that you can have a "picture". You can take a look here. The first ten played matches will have the viewer visible for free.

Walk-Overs
A walk-over (WO) happens when a team fails to select 11 players to the match. When a team is defeated by WO loses the match by 3-0. If both teams fail to present 11 players on the field, both will be awarded with a defeat.

Players

There are basically two kinds of players in FootStar: human-controlled players and bot players. Bot players usually have very low skills and their only functions are to fill up bot teams and human teams with few players and to become "hosts" of human players, sooner or later. They do not train, their fitness is always 100% and their morale is useless in matches.

Inside the game, we usually distinguish human players from bot players by having the human-controlled players' names in bold letters.

All human controlled players will have a birthday date. This date uses the same format as the FootStar Date (see the Footstar Date section). You can find the birthday FS date of each player at his details page (just after his age info. Ex: 17 years (1/2/1)).

partie 13

Teams

As players, teams can also be controlled by humans or by the server (bots). In human-controlled teams, human players have an additional challenge as they'll have to deal with a real manager.

There isn't much to say about bot teams that we haven't told you before. Their bot managers AI (Artificial Intelligence) is not that high (on purpose) and that's why we allow human players to move from bot team to bot team if they're unhappy or also to human-controlled teams without any "penalties". You should also know that bot teams won't ever play friendly matches.

Each team will be created with 16 players and they can't at any time have less than 11 players.

Inactivity

From time to time we delete inactive users from the game. Each week, users that have passed more than 2 months (60 days) without logging in to the game will be deleted from FootStar. FS Fans will be safe from this inactivity check, though.

When a user is fired, his player is reset and becomes a bot player. This means that it can be a host for another newbie human player.

You'll receive some warnings along the way if you become inactive. However, as it was stated before, if your account is inactive for 60 days you'll be kicked from the game.

Things get a little more serious when we're talking about users that also control teams. The rule is that they're FS Fans so they won't be deleted, but when the FS Fan period expires, they'll be kicked out. This means that the team will become a bot team. This also means that all human players on that team will be free to leave if they want. It's a really nasty issue but that's the best way to handle it, in our opinion.

Transfers

The transfer system in FootStar is divided in two parts: free transfers and regular transfers. We'll start with free transfers: whenever a human-controlled player is out of contract, he's available for any team to sign for free; this means he's on free transfer. The only step he has to take in order to move to a new team is only to discuss the contract (refer to section Contract Details for more info)

The other part of the transfer system is the regular transfers. There are several steps one has to go through to complete a regular transfer. First, the human manager of the team must the human-controlled player up for sale. This can be done with the player's agreement or against the player's will: it's really up to the manager to decide. After the player is put on the transfer list, a deadline will be set for offers to arrive. This deadline is exactly 3 days after he is put on the list. During this time, other human managers from other teams have the possibility of making offers respecting a minimum bid price set by the player's manager. All bids values will remain hidden in the process: this is called by as a closed auction. After the deadline expires, no more bids can be made. At that time it's up to the player to decide if he accepts any of the bids; full contract details will be shown to the player regarding all accepted bids and he has the possibility to make the choice: either he decides to accept one offer or he might even reject all bids and remain at the club.

Overpriced transfers in the Transfer Market
All bids should be in relevance to what could be considered reasonable for the player in question. Overpriced transfers can ruin the good atmosphere of the game between users so our staff members will have the possibility to adjust and/or cancel transfers if they believe the good spirit of the game is at risk. The same happens for contract details such as exaggerated wages, prizes and signing fees.

A final note about bot players: they cannot be transferred in any way (free transfer or regular transfers).

Economy

Each week the financial updates take place (on Fridays at 10:00 server-time). It's at this moment that your wages are paid and your monthly costs are deducted from your bank account.
For teams, they'll have to pay wages but they'll also receive their sponsor's money income. Human-controlled teams should be careful so that they have the necessary money to pay their players' wages. If they fail to pay their players, wages will be left behind and with a delay of 2 wages, human players will be free to leave without any compensation fee.

Series system

The number of divisions might differ from country to country. This means that if one country has more user requests, then this means that probably it will have a bigger number of teams.

However each series has always the same number of teams, 8. The basic structure of the division system is the same for each country. Basically it's a pyramidal format. The bigger the division is the more series it will have. The format is the following:
First Division - 8 teams - 128 players
Second Division - 32 teams (4 series: B-1, B-2, B-3, B-4) - 640 players
Third Division - 128 teams (16 series: C-1, C-2, C-3, ... C-16) - 2688 players
Fourth Division - 512 teams (64 series: D-1, D-2, D-3, ... D-64) - 10880 players
Fifth Division - 2048 teams (256 series: E-1, E-2, E-3, ... E-256) - 43648 players
Sixth Division - 8192 teams (1024 series: F-1, F-2, F-3, ... F-1024) - 174720 players

With this format, we'll have on each series 4 teams being relegated to the division below (if not in the bottom division) and 1 being promoted to the division immediatelly above (if not in the top division already). Promotions and relegations are direct and there won't be played any qualification/play-off matches

Each league round will be played on weekends, with friendly and cup matches on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Along with a 2 week off-season, this makes a season to last around 16 weeks.

Team positions within a series are ordered by (order of importance) points, goal average, scored goals and number of victories. If teams stay even after comparing all these items, a random factor will be applied.

When you're promoted to a higher division you'll gain a division bonus (for finishing 1st). Here you have the bonus list by division:
First division (National Champion): € 400000 (or the equivalent on your currency)
Second division: € 300000
Third division: € 200000
Fourth division: € 100000
Fifth division: € 50000
Sixth division: € 25000

partie 14

National cup

Each country will have its own national cup competition. Of course that the number of rounds the cup will have will depend on the number of teams a country has. We'll present you with a relation between the number of teams on a country and the number of rounds/teams the national cup will have:
8 Teams - 3 Rounds - 8 Teams in the National Cup
40 Teams - 5 Rounds - 32 Teams in the National Cup
168 Teams - 7 Rounds - 128 Teams in the National Cup
680 Teams - 9 Rounds - 512 Teams in the National Cup
2728 Teams - 11 Rounds - 2048 Teams in the National Cup
10920 Teams - 13 Rounds - 8192 Teams in the National Cup

As you can see in almost all cases, some teams won't be able to participate on the cup. To get the necessary number of teams of a country where all teams are not able to participate in the cup we use a ranking system. This ranking system will be mainly built over team results. This means that if your team wins a lot of matches it will be ranked higher than other teams of the same division that don't perform that well. "Same division" because the ranking is limited by division: for example, teams in first division can't place below a certain position on the ranking. And teams from lower divisions won't be able to place too high on the ranking.

Another important thing to be mentioned is concerning cup gate receipts. 60% of the gate receipts of cup matches will be give to the home team and 40% to the away team. If we're talking about the final, the receipts will be shared (50%/ 50%).

Cup matches are special matches. If the game is not settled after 90' it will go on to extra-time. Then, if after the 120' there is still a draw, a penalty shoot-out will take place to decide the winner. The winning team will move to the next round.

As told before, cup matches are played mid-week on Wednesdays or Thursdays (depending on your country's match schedule). A team cannot play a friendly and a cup match on the same week.

Cup matches are kinda looked like league matches in what concerns to experience and morale (regarding players). Players will get the same experience and morale bonus (or penalties in case of morale) as in league games. Match prizes are also given on cup matches.

The cup winner will be given a monetary prize of € 800000. The runner-up will earn € 400000.

Friendly Matches

Your team can play a friendly match once a week if it's not set to play on the national cup. This kind of matches must be scheduled by a human manager though. So if you're playing on a bot, you can forget about playing any friendly matches.

Friendly matches' gate receipts will be shared between both clubs (50%/ 50%).

Also, in friendly matches you earn little experience points for your player and, more importantly, you don't receive any morale penalties regarding your team role and performance during the match. However, you'll receive match prizes.

FS Fan

FS Fan is a service that adds some extra features to the free version of game. This package is meant to add great fun and enjoyment to the users that subscribe it.

Our main goal is always to offer the same possibilities of success for everyone and so we've decided that these extra features shouldn't give any direct advantages to their subscribers. However, with FS Fan we can guarantee you that you'll have a deeper experience of what FootStar really is!

The reason for the creation of this service is basically to help us develope and enhance the game and also to maintain the costs of running the game servers.

FS Fan has two variations: one with the basic features (silver) and the other package (gold) that gives you all the basic features along with the possibility of managing a team. With the gold package you'll also get features only available to users that manage a team such as the team's guestbook, setting your players' numbers, a little player notebook, shortlists, etc. You can also subscribe for 3 or 12 months of any package. Once you subscribe to a package you won't be able to change to the other version (gold or silver) until the end of the subscription.

You'll find more about information about what FS Fan is and offers you on the FS Fan menu, option "What is it?". To find information about the pricing please go to the same menu, but choose the "Buy" option instead.

partie 15

Controlling a team

By subscribing to the gold FS Fan package, you'll be able to manage a team. But you won't get an automatic team. Before buying the package you should get informed about the number of bot teams in your country. There's no use in subscribing to this package if your country doesn't have any available bot teams for you to take control of. You should know that you can only manage teams from your country and there might be the possibility that you can't take control of teams on higher divisions, depending on the number of divisions your country currently has on its league system. Of course, this only applies when you first take control of the team; you can then promote to higher divisions without any problems. Let us give you the full details about this:

Country with 1 division: you can take control of any bot team on division 1.
Country w/ 2 divs.: you can take control of any bot team on divisions 1 and 2.
Country w/ 3 divs.: you can take control of any bot team on divisions 2 and 3.
Country w/ 4 divs.: you can take control of any bot team on divisions 3 and 4.
Country w/ 5 divs. or more: you cannot take control of any bot team on divisions 1, 2 and 3.

Be informed that you have the possibility to leave/resign the team if you wish so. (Team >> Resign). But you won't be able to manage another team in the next 6 months.

Also, to be able to take control of a team, you must be a free player. You cannot be managing a team and play on another at the same time, it would be totally weird!
When you take control of a team you become the player-manager of the team. Your contract's wage will be preset following this formula: the average wage of the 11 most well-paid players of the team + 3% of the sponsors weekly income. The value of the wage will be updated weekly at the economic updates. The contract will have duration of 1 season and it will be automatically renewed each season. It also won't have any signing fees nor match prizes, and you won't be able to offer yourself a new contract.

If you happen to resign from the team, your player will remain in it or leave, depending on your game option (Manager >> Preferences) regarding this event of the game.

Well, after knowing the restrictions and having subscribed to the gold package of FS Fan, when you want to start managing a team, you should go to its details page and select the "Control this team" option on the right info panel. It might be wise to first check about player's info, standings, fixtures, etc. You should know that after you start to control a team some players might leave the team at that exact moment. Those who'll stay will probably ask some brand new contracts as their bot contracts will be really low, so be ready for that.

These are probably the first steps to make when you start with a new team: get to know your players, analyze your squad, make a quick check about your player's contracts and define the strategy to the club; the team's training scheme is also very important. You'll start with €500000 (0.5M euro) (or the equivalent on your currency), so you can also take a quick look on the transfer list and free transfers page (All in menu Team >> Transfers). That's right, when you're controlling a team you'll have access to a new main menu option (Team).

As a manager you'll have the responsibility to set your team's starting eleven, choose its formation and possibly schedule some substitutions (match events, explained on The Match section). Basically these are the only things you have to manage in your team regarding the match. The purpose of FootStar is not to be an online football manager simulator so we don't want you to waste too much time with it.

You might have some doubts in the Starting Eleven page that we'll be glad to clear out. To go to this page, select Team >> Match Day >> Starting Eleven on the main menu. The page consists on two parts: the formation selector (in Macromedia Flash, please refer to the FootStar Computer Requirements above in this manual) and the starting eleven selector.
The formation selector should be very easy to understand: just move the circles (simulating the team players) to the positions you want and thus set your formation. You should know that your formation has to have at least 3 defenders, 2 midfielders and one forward. You can't have more than 1 player on each wing and more than 3 in the middle.
The starting eleven selector it's not that easy to understand at first glance, opposed the formation selector, but it's easy as well once you get around to it. Anyway, the process is simple: you should click on the player's row you want to change and then change that player with another player by clicking on the second player's row. It's a click and change process, basically. If you want to see the player's detail page just click on the Info image. After you have all the players ordered as you wish, just click on the "Send Starting Eleven" button.

You can also set Match Orders for the match. At the top of the page you'll find a select box with the "Default Orders" text on it. Well this means that you're editing the default orders of your team. These orders will be used in any match where match orders weren't set. If you go to that box and select any other game, you'll be editing the specific orders for that match. These kind of pre-defined orders (called Match Orders) will be used over default orders so be careful when you set them for a specific match.

The other important feature for matches is the possibility to schedule the substitution of your players. Going to Team >> Match Day >> Match Events you'll find an interface to schedule your subs. You can also program some specific conditions for the sub to happen such as minute and match result.

Team Talks
Being a manager, you have an important task: the communication with the players. We provide you an interface so that you can easily do that without having to use internal messages. Going to Team >> Players >> Team talk, you'll find an option to leave a message to a specific player or to leave a message to all of your players. Your players will probably answer back, and you'll see a small warning box in the office page if that happens. Bear in mind that if some of your players are foreign, they'll probably not be able to understand your native language.

Stadium
All stadiums will have a 10000 capacity and for now we won't allow teams to increase this capacity. You also do not pay maintenance costs for your stadium.

Result Prizes
This prizes are given when your team achieves a draw or a win (home/away). You can set a value until 1% of your available amount of money for each prize. This prize will be paid to all players that participate in the match. You can change the value of the prizes in your advanced options at any time you want.

These should be the most relevant features that are not quite self-explanatory by looking at the options in the Team menu. If there are any other questions you have about managing teams, please ask us or other managers on the global or your country's Help forum. We and they will be glad to help you.

Cities

The concept of cities is yet under-developed in the initial version of FootStar, although we have plenty of ideas to develop them later in the game. Basically each team and player will have a city associated with them which defines their homeland. Needless to say that you must select a city from the country of origin of your player (in this case your personal native country, if your country is available in the game).

We'll probably be adding some new cities along the way so you'll be given the possibility to select a new city later so don't worry if the city you'd like to select is not available yet.

Right now, you just have to select the city of your player (or team, if you decide to buy the FS Fan gold package and manage a team) and wait for further developments on this feature.

Community

Our aim is to have a big and rich community. You can count on us to provide you the tools to expand the community but it's really up to you to make it happen. You have our word that we'll be actively present on forums, reading all the important stuff you write to us. Although, please do not expect us to answer everything you write us, it's really impossible due to time issues, though we'd love to do it.

We have internal forums where you can communicate with all the other users. The forums work by subscription mode: for you to have access to a forum, you must subscribe it. The first page after you click on Community >> Forums is the configuration page. You can take a look on your pre-defined forums and subscribe to as many more as you wish.

You should however remember that we have some rules you must respect if you want to take part of our user community. We'll talk about them at the next section of this manual.

Behavior

As we told before, if you want to be part of our user community you really have to respect some rules. These rules do not apply only to the forums, but also to all areas where you can interact with other users such as blogs, internal messages, etc.

What is not allowed:
- Advertising players (except on the ads forum, created for that purpose)
- Asking for friendly matches (except on the ads forum).
- Multiple posting of similar comments or threads, or posting comments not related to the topic (spam).
- Bumping threads (spam).
- Racist or any other kind of attacks on a person, nation or religion.
- Political discussions.
- Excessive use of swear words and/or insults.
- Excessive use of CAPITAL letters.
- Cheating accusations (use the proper cheat report form or the e-mails on the contacts page).
- Advertising things or services you want to buy/sell in real life.
- Supporting or inciting to the use of illegal software.
- Promoting the use of illegal substances or criminal activities.
- Discussing decisions taken by members of the Administration of the game.
- Creating threads or posting anything linking to adult material (porn, etc.).

Exceptions (at forums):
- Only the national manager can place ads in National Forums about players that belong to the National Team and that are in that moment for sale. If the player belongs to the National manager team, he is not allowed to do it.

Punishments :
- All infractions to rules may take to punishments from the administration team. The rules concerning the punishments allow variation in their application, as they can be fines, bans from the forums for some time, or event the instant termination of your FootStar account.
- The forums moderators may move, delete or close topics without notice.
- All decisions taken by the administration team and the punishments made cannot be discussed in any public location.
This set of rules might change without any notice from the staff.

Footstar Date

FootStar Date is what we call to the internal dating system we use in the game. This virtual date has 3 parts: week day, week and season (wd/w/s). An example would be 2/3/1: this means we are on a Monday (2), Week 3 (in FootStar a season is made of 16 weeks) and season 1.

About the Week Day part, you should now that we use the following numerical equivalence:
Sunday: 1
Monday: 2
Tuesday: 3
Wednesday: 4
Thursday: 5
Friday: 6
Saturday: 7
